Cracking down on DUI offenders

5106c9221a1c2_preview-620Another bill I’ve proposed would change the way the state punishes drunk and impaired drivers. In 2006, the Legislature amended the state’s drunk driving laws to make it so the offense rises to the level of a class C felony if a person has four or more prior offenses within ten years.

Senate Bill 6085 would lengthen that time frame to 15 years, thereby increasing the chances that a person caught driving under the influence would be more likely to receive a stiffer penalty.

This bill has been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Committee on Law & Justice at 8:00 AM Friday, and I’ll keep you apprised of its status as it moves through the process.
