Fast start to a short session

As we come to the end of the first four weeks of the 2018 legislative session, I wanted to give you an update on what’s going on in Olympia.

Amtrak derailment resolution

My office had the privilege of inviting first responders and others who helped rescue and aid victims of the Dec.18 Amtrak train derailment to Olympia this week to be recognized by members of the Senate for their bravery.

It was my honor to meet with these men and women and personally thank them for saving lives after this horrible accident occurred in our community. They included: DuPont Mayor Mike Courts; Chief John Batiste and members of the Washington State Patrol; Pierce County Sheriff’s Department; Captain Jerry Lawrence, who led the Pierce County Incident Management Team; and Good Samaritan and civilian first responders Daniel Konzelman and Alicia Hoverson.

Also depicted below, members from the Puyallup Police Department, Joint Base Lewis McChod – Madigan Army Medical Center, Pierce County Transit, Washington State Department of Transportation, American Red Cross, CHI Franciscan Health, St. Peter’s Hospital, Tumwater Fire Department, Capital Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center.
