O’Ban expresses condolences and solidarity with Muslim community in New Zealand after mass shooting

OLYMPIA…Sen. Steve O’Ban, R-Pierce County, issued the following statement of support for the Muslim community after the mass shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand that claimed 49 lives and injured dozens of others during Jummah (Friday prayer).

“I know that the Muslim community around the world is reeling after the horrific attack in Christchurch. I send my condolences to the victims and their loved ones. And I stand in support of the Muslim community as it grieves this unfathomable loss.

“This type of violent hate is unacceptable anywhere, and is particularly horrifying in a house of worship. No one should ever feel afraid while practicing their faith.

“Any act of terrorism should be condemned and I hope that the mosque in my district, in Washington and around the world will be shown the solidarity they deserve.”
