Protecting people with developmental disabilities

On Friday, Tacoma resident Laura Gholston helped Gov. Inslee sign into law legislation I sponsored to better protect people with developmental disabilities.
This new legislation was inspired by a story from KING 5 investigative reporter Susannah Frame detailing the abuse Laura suffered by her own state-paid caregiver, which was not caught in annual inspections (watch original story here).
The new law will increase home visits and oversight for people with developmental disabilities at the highest risk of neglect and abuse.
We also create a new watchdog to investigate and recommend changes to improve care and safety.
